Scientists are to investigate officially the links between mobile phone masts and cancer, the Government announced today.
The experts have been ordered to find out once and for all whether the masts are the cause of a spate of illnesses, including the eruption of so called “cancer streetsî. They will study a group of volunteers who believe they have been made ill by the masts.
The mobile telecommunications health research programme (MTHR), which is part-funded by the Government, has already spent £4.5million on studies into mobile phone handsets and radiow aves and their effects on health.

But although these have partly addressed the effect which masts might have on people living near them, experts believe a studyfocusing exclusively on base stations is now vital.
They hope to discover through a range of tests on the volunteers w hether electro m agnetic fields emitted by base stations are the cause of their health problems. The MTHR said it wants a “study investigating the basis of symptoms attributed by the volunteers to their exposure to emissions from base stations”.
Dr Mike Clarke from the National Radiological Protection Board said the MTHR had realised there were gaps in its present research project.

“There is a great body of research into the use of handsets. But I think they have realised that there is a need to look at health risks from mobile phone base stations as well,” he said.
“Although there have been a lot of studies measuring the EMF’s produced by masts, this is the first to look at people who think they are ill and masts.”

Scientists have struggled until now to research the effects of masts on health because there are so many other devices which which produce electrom agnetic fields – including electricity cables and household equipment.
How ever, by using volunteers who specifically cite masts as the cause of their illness, the British research w ould avoid this problem.

There has been outrage in recent years at the number of mobile phone masts erected across Britain, with m a ny people believing that – like electricitypylons, which have been linked with an increased rate of childhood leukemia – they could cause illness.
In some areas of the country, “cancer streets” have appeared with clusters of people living near mobile masts blaming their illness on the new technology.

At the end of last year, there was widespread alarm when it was revealed that a mobile phone company was placing masts inside McDonald’s signs and Shell garage logos so that they would not be visible. This prompted widespread distrust of the mobile phone industry and its claims that masts are safe.
How ever, at present, most mobile phone masts erected in Britain produce very low electro m agnetic fields, often less than 0.2 per cent of the amount considered a potential threat to health.

But most experts agree that if mobile phones are found to affect health, the Government would need be ready with advice for consumers based on thorough scientific research.

Today mobile phones are an important communication tool and its use continues to grow wide. There are an estimated 5 million mobile phone users worldwide. Large quantities of this raises concerns about the impact of mobile phone radiation on health, especially brain tumors. There is debate about whether this association in the world in recent years. Several studies have been conducted to answer this, but the results varied too.

Research by Lahkola and Klaeboe and Takebayashi et al 2007 and Lahkola in 2008 showed no increased use of mobile phones, the risk of brain tumors. However, studies by the World Health Organization (WHO), the presence of linkage. The results of this contradiction may be due to different research methods, research time, different rules and variables used in different studies. Effects of mobile phone radiation on brain health depends on many factors. So far, there are four factors that can affect the risk of brain health.

The first factor is the type of phone. Riskier types of mobile phones causes brain tumors with the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is large. SAR is the amount of radiation energy absorbed by the brain tissue. The higher the value of the SAR, the radiation energy is absorbed the brain. SAR value varies between models and manufacturers of mobile phones. SAR is a safe value of <1.6 watt / kg.

The second factor is the type of antenna. One type of risk of the antenna is the type of antenna is built into the phone as it radiates more energy.
The third factor is the distance between the transmitter cell phone tower nearest you. The weaker the signal produced by a station in the nearby tower, the higher the energy expended by the mobile phone for contact with the network.

The fourth factor is dominant and the side of the head that is on appeal. Dominant head has 97-99% of the energy of the radiation when it is called, so the risk of brain tumors is increasing on the dominant side of the head.

These four factors are known to affect the incidence of brain tumors. However, there are still many other factors to look for and examined further. In future studies, standardization is even better and more research time needed to obtain useful and meaningful results.

Because until now there is no general consensus of agreement on the connection between cell phone radiation on the risk of brain tumors, then we can do is to reduce exposure to radiation, especially through:
1. Conversation with a cell phone, as needed.
2. Use mode “speakerphone” (if possible) to further the distance between a wireless phone user’s body during a conversation.
3. Using a cell phone external antenna (antenna type, in which the antenna can be stretched lengthwise) ha. Antenna as a place to receive and send signals. The phones, which use internal anterna means that the focus of the antenna with the user’s body.
4. Implementation of outgoing calls / calls with strong signal conditions. If the call is made when the signal activity in a weakened state, mobile phones will spend more resources than most to keep the call, even though the signals are weak, so that the user of exposure to radiation is higher.
5. Keep cell phones in places that are not next to each other in the human body, for example by storing a cell phone in your pocket, not in a pants pocket.

Besides communication, entertainment, and some office capability, what ElSE could cell phone do for us?

According to some online data, Scientists are intending to give current smart mobile phones a new serious, health identity, that is, a tracer. They are trying to install different software on the GPS, cameras or other parts of mobile phones to enable the phone to do different things. The enhanced cell phone would:
Warn us to be away from possible pollution sources. Future phone will be capable of analyzing traffic situation, weather condition, etc. They would inform us of being away from areas where air-borne pollutant might damage our health.

Remind us how our daily activities will influence the target environment. After the cell phone’s GPS collect the tracks of our daily life, relevant software will make a comprehensive analysis. Then our mobile phone would tell us what kind of our behaviors are good for environment and what are bad. Furthermore, they could give us some constructive suggestions on what our daily activities, for example, when is the best time to take a taxi and when is great for taking a bus.

Help check our exercises and health condition. The improved mobile phone is capable of reminding us of regularly taking medicines and consulting if there is any side effect happens simultaneously. When we reduce our exercises, they will tell us as well.

Collect scientific data. The future phone would be able to observe the intruded biological elements and send the picture to the relevant institutions, convenient for biologists to draw the intruded biological element maps and find the settlement to the problems.

Numerous studies show that was done a bad cell phone radiation on the human body. For example increase the risk of ear tumors and brain cancer, a bad influence on brain tissue damage and reduce the sperm count up to 30 percent, resulting in a meningioma, acoustic neurinoma, acoustic melanoma, and salivary gland cancer. Unfortunately, none of six of the world’s largest mobile phone vendor to respond to the results of these studies. It’s okay to experts warned the danger of electromagnetic waves, but it almost always responded with a statement producer, “Safe-safe only.”

Although there is no certainty on the results of this study, research project leader Franz Adlkofer suggest preventive measures to encourage the use of cell phones only in emergencies only. That is, if all around you is a regular phone you should avoid using cell phones. Or, use a hands-free device whenever possible.

As a myth, but there is little data that says that the phone can provide an effect on male fertility. In fact, a study published in the medical journal, Fertility & Serility, examines the use of mobile phones by 361 men at a fertility clinic. The results show that the more a man uses his mobile phone, the lower the number, quality and durability of their sperm.

In October, reported a study conducted on animals found that rats who were given six hours of daily cellular phone emissions for 18 weeks had a greater tendency experienced the death of sperm compared with untreated mice. The researchers say the results can be believed to be carrying mobile phones close to the reproductive organs can give a negative effect on fertility.

The use of phones in a long time and routine will increase the risk of tumor approximately 50 percent than those who did not use the phone.

The new study by Israeli scientists who research results published in the American Journal of Epidemiology states that at least 402 people have a tumor in the mouth is the condition, while the other 56 categories into malignant cancer. The study involved 1266 mobile phone users. Those who use mobile phones more than normal, or use in a long time and continually at risk of developing tumors in Parotid gland (salivary gland), which is located at the mouth with the ear position. Mobile phone users in rural areas or suburbs, where the phone to work harder to make contact with the BTS (Base Transceiver Station) nearby, at greater risk of tumors.

Mentioned study of electromagnetic fields emitted by mobile phones will continuously make the body cells overreact. But cell phone radiation level is used for this is still considered too small effect on the health and even to disrupt or damage the structure of DNA. Scientists are still continuing mystery of health effects of mobile phones on this.

However, negative impacts on the health of mobile phone technology, we can avoid using the handsfree to emit radiation in the mobile phone does not shine directly into the brain.

In addition to Mobile, computers are very much beneficial for society is today also have a negative impact of such disturbances often experienced as the body feels stiff, less fresh, visual impairment and rigid muscle movement causes negative effects for the health of our bodies. This is the negative impact caused by too long in front of the computer. Especially for practitioners in their daily business are required to constantly deal with technology, especially those who are involved in online business.

Negative impacts caused by computer technology there is also a negative impact on psychology and health.

Anti-social attitudes and behavior are formed from exposure to program content of the media features that were created from this computer. One of the many features that adorn the contents of the computer software is a game. Both children, teens and adults use a computer to play their favorite game each. For instance students play sports games or war like counter strike (CS) which is a computer game. Usually they play their favorite game was on the sidelines of their activity when saturated or resting. Computer game provides many spices violence in it.

What’s the hang up on cell phones? Could they be the next cigarettes? Siobhan Downes investigates the World Health Organisation’s recent statement that radiation from your cell phone could cause cancer.

It’s the icon of the wireless age: the cell phone. We have been dubbed the ‘thumb generation’ because of our deep obsession with them. They have replaced the landline and become our lifelines. But they are also the subjects of TV3’s latest Inside New Zealand documentary: “Is Your Cell Phone Killing You?” At first the idea is almost laughable. I think of Drew Barrymore and her fellow troupe of ill-fated victims in the Scream movies, who are killed when they answer their phones. But this issue has nothing to do with the threat of a creepy, knife-wielding murderer in a facemask on the other end of the line. According to recent research, it’s the phones themselves that could be the killers.

On May 31 this year, the World Health Organisation announced that cell phones ‘might’ increase users’ risk of developing cancer. According to the press release, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, a branch of the WHO, has classified the radiofrequency electromagnetic fields that cell phones produce as ‘possibly carcinogenic to humans.’ The press release stated that with an estimated five billion cell phone subscriptions globally, there has been ‘mounting concern’ about the health effects of cell phone use.

Although the report may seem like nothing to phone home about, it is the first time the Organisation has publicly made the connection between cell phones and cancer. But the connection is not new. It is one that has been fiercely disputed by scientists, health officials, and members of the cell phone industry since the 1990s. The link was most famously initiated in 1992, when a man named David Reynard appeared on the Larry King Live show, claiming that cell phone radiation had caused his wife’s death from brain cancer. An x-ray showed that the shape and location of the tumour closely resembled an outline of where the woman had normally held her cell phone to her ear. Reynard sued the cell phone manufacturer and carrier, and it became the first ever case to link cell phone radiation with cancer. The case generated massive publicity, and sparked widespread hysteria over cell phone safety.

As a result, the cell phone industry had no choice but to launch an investigation into the potential health effects of cell phone use. American medical scientist Dr. George Carlo was appointed to head the investigation, which spanned from 1993 to 1996.

The research was plagued with problems from the start – mainly due to the fact that the industry and the researchers had completely different motivations. While the industry wanted to prove that cell phones were completely safe for public use, the researchers under Carlo had no such bias, and were objectively looking for any health effects that may result from cell phone use. So when Dr. Carlo found that cell phone radiation caused DNA damage, and interfered with cardiac pacemakers, the industry immediately attempted to play down the findings. Carlo has since become a prominent cell phone ‘sceptic’, and set out to independently publicise what the industry would not – including claims that cell phones were never tested for safety before entering the market, as they were originally intended for use by the Department of Defence.

It’s this potential for bias that is the premise for Inside New Zealand’s documentary, which explores how our own telecommunications industry is dealing with the allegations that cell phones could be a health issue. A recurrent question the documentary asks is just how objective is the information that is out there? A voiceover says ominously, ‘according to the telecommunications industry, millions of dollars of research shows we have nothing to fear.’ A graph on the documentary then exposes that only 25% of industry-funded research shows adverse health effects of cell phone use, while 75% of independently funded studies reveal adverse effects. It is made clear that the industry must have had some impact on the results.

But Dr. David Black, who is interviewed as an expert on the subject of electromagnetic safety, and is a firm opponent of the idea that cell phones could have negative health effects on the population, maintains that he has never been influenced by the industry. He does admit to the camera, however, that the New Zealand cell phone industry frequently employs him – ‘probably because they like what I’m going to say.’

Even without the influence of the industry, there are mixed messages being sent out as to whether cell phones could cause cancer, messages which are dividing the scientific community. The largest ever study on the subject that claimed to be completely independent was conducted between 2000 and 2006, known as the INTERPHONE project. According to The Economist, it involved 13 countries, 50 scientists and 14,000 people, and cost 30 million dollars. Its purpose was to determine, once and for all, whether there was a link between cell phones and brain cancer. Yet even after all that time, money and expertise, the study remained inconclusive. Some results of the study showed that regular cell phone use might actually offer protection against some brain cancers. Other results showed that those who spent the greatest amount of time on their cell phones had a 40% increased risk of developing a brain tumour. Clearly the studies are flawed, so are we getting hysterical over nothing?

It all depends on how much weight can be given to the WHO’s definition of ‘possibly carcinogenic’. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the classifications exist to identify environmental factors that can increase the risk of human cancer. The categories range from Group 1 (carcinogenic to humans), to Group 4 (probably not carcinogenic to humans). Cynics have been quick to point out that, cell phones have been placed in the category that contains ‘tame’ substances such as coffee and pickled vegetables. But others note that the pesticide DDT and gasoline engine exhaust are also present in that same category.

Despite the outpouring of conflicting information, already many local and national bodies are taking precautionary measures. San Francisco made headlines last year when they became the first city in the United States to initiate a law that directly addressed the cell phone radiation issue. Known as the ‘Right To Know’ law, it forced all cell phone retailers to provide clear information about each phone’s radiation emissions and their potential negative effects. This action followed the lead of several European nations, who have been recommending to their citizens ways of reducing cell phone radiation exposure, such as using hands-free devices, and texting instead of making calls.

It’s these kinds of precautions that New Zealand’s Green Party is also pushing for. MP Sue Kedgley said in a recent press release that she would like to see warnings displayed on cell phones, including labels that show how much radiation the phone is emitting and the health risks of their use. Currently this information is less than transparent. Vodafone and Telecom mobile safety fact sheets that can be downloaded from each company’s website tend to downplay the issue. The Vodafone fact sheet only details base station safety information, sourcing a World Health Organisation statement from 2006. At that time, the WHO had concluded that ‘current evidence does not confirm the existence of any health consequences.’ Telecom quotes the same outdated statement, in their own safety document – ‘Let’s talk about mobile phone sites’. Neither refers to the possibility that the phones themselves could be the danger. According to Kedgley, it’s the same sort of denial the tobacco industry has displayed in the past. ‘Imagine if we’d wisened up to the risks of smoking cigarettes earlier. Many lives would have been saved.’

Could cell phones be the next cigarettes? Putting the potential health effects of cell phones aside, there are some surprising behavioural similarities between the two. As early as 1999, James Stewart, then a student at the University of Edinburgh, was considering the connection between the sociology of cigarette and cell phone use. His examples are telling. At the peak of their popularity, cigarettes were once seen as symbols of glamour and wealth – think Audrey Hepburn and her iconic cigarette holder in the 1961 Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The present-day equivalent could be the iPhone, with its sleek advertising and shameless celebrity endorsement. Stewart also notes similarities in the way we socially use each product – like cigarettes, cell phones have become something we constantly fiddle with, use when we’re trying not to look out of place, when we are nervous or bored. There are also various social codes surrounding their use – they are banned in certain areas, and considered antisocial in others.

Only further research and more time will tell if cell phones could be our generation’s fatal mistake. But it seems, like cigarettes, that we’re already too addicted. Even if the World Health Organisation’s worst fears are realised, would we actually be able to hang up our phones for good? Unlikely, according to one blogger, who perhaps represents what most of us are thinking when he says – ‘The World Health Organisation will have to pry my iPhone from my cold dead hands.’

Have you ever worry that the thing you spend hours holding near to your head may be damaging your brain? Well, the evidence is starting to pour in, and it’s not pretty. So there is a question that why isn’t anyone in America doing anything about it?
A few days before, I have met an investment banker who was diagnosed with a brain tumor five years ago. He is the managing director of a top firm. I have meet him with help of my firend. He was agreed to talk with me if I will not use his name. Therefor I will call him Mark. He has told me that the tumor has been located just behind his right ear and this tumor was not immediately very dangerous and survival rate is about seventy percent. He was 35 years old when he diagnosis and immediately he think that it was the result of his intense cell-phone usage. He said that He was using cell phone since 1990, back when they were the Gordon-Gekko-on-the-beach kind of phone.” When Mark asked his neurosurgeon, who was on the staff of a big medical center in Britain, about the possibility of a cell-phone-induced tumor, the doctor told him that in fact he was seeing more and more of such cases in which young, relatively healthy businessmen who had long used their phones obsessively.

He said that he think that the industry had discredited studies showing there is a risk from cell phones. “I got a thinking that he was pissed off,” Mark said said to me. One of Mark’s colleagues had been already died from brain cancer,And day by daythey are getting more reports he encountered of young finance guys developing tumors, the more certain he felt that it wasn’t a coincidence. Mark said that “I know 4 or 5 peoples who are working at my firm who got tumors”.

It is very dificult to talk on the dangers of cell-phone radiation without sounding like a conspiracy theorist. This is genarlly common in the United States, where non-industry-funded studies are rare, In unitied states legislation protecting the wireless industry from legal challenges has long been in place, and where our lives have been more integrated with wireless technology that it is very difficult to say that it might be a problem.
Cell phone, in fact has more and more effect at the rest of the world. Consider, for example, the following headlines that have appeared in highly reputable international newspapers and journals over the past many years. From summer 2006, in a well reputeted newspaer “ ARE WE TELEPHONING OURSELVES TO DEATH? That fall, in the Danish newspaper: MOBILE PHONES AFFECT THE BRAIN’S METABOLISM.In December 2007, In France newspaper “ ISRAELI STUDY SAYS REGULAR MOBILE USE INCREASES TUMOUR RISK”. January 2008, in London newspaper worte, “ MOBILE PHONE RADIATION WRECKS YOUR SLEEP” . September 2008, in Australia’s Newspaper “ SCIENTISTS WARN OF MOBILE PHONE CANCER RISK”.

Although the scientific debate is heated and far from resolved, there are several reports, generally out of Europe’s premier research institutions, of cell-phone and PDA use being linked to “brain aging,” brain damage, early-onset Alz¬heimer’s, senility, DNA damage, and even sperm die-offs. In September 2007, the European Union’s environmental watchdog, the European Environment Agency, warned that cell-phone technology “might lead to a health disaster similar to those caused by asbestos, smoking, and lead in petrol.”

Perhaps most worrying, though, are the beginning results of the multinational Interphone study sponsored by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, in Lyon, France. Scientists from 13 countries took part in the study, the United States conspicuously not among them. According to Interphone researchers reported in 2008 that after ten years of cell phone use, there is a chance of getting a brain tumor, specially on the side of the head where you use the phone, goes up as much as 40 percent for adults. Interphone researchers in Israel came to know that cell phones may cause tumors of the parotid gland , and an self-governing study in Sweden previous year concluded that people who started using a cell phone before the age of 20 years were five times as likely to develop a brain tumor.

According to one more Interphone study reported a nearly 300% increased risk of acoustic neuroma, a tumor of the acoustic nerve.
As more results of the Interphone study are coming out, I asked David Smith, who has a doctorate in environmental policy from MIT and in 1981 founded an investigative newsletter. He recommended that much of the comfort of our modern lives depends on not caring, we are refusing to recognize the dangers of microwave radiation. “We love our cell phones very much. The example that there’s no danger here is part of a worldview that had to be put into place,” he said

After reading from above we can say that the radiation from cell phones and wireless transmitters affects the human brain, and to get some sense of why the concerns raised in so many studies outside the U.S. are not being seriously raised here, it’s necessary to go back fifty years, long before the advent of the cell phone, to the research of a young neuroscientist named Allan Frey. In fact the studies shows that cell phone can cause problems for health. And it nessessary that we have to find a solution for this problem.

Bangalore, August 29, DHNS:
Nearly eight lakh new cancer cases are reported every year in India and 75 per cent of the cases are discovered at an advanced stage due to late detection and inappropriate treatment.
To encourage early detection, Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre (MSCC) in Narayana Hrudayalaya Health campus, along with SANA, a research group under Harvard Business School and MIT, has launched ‘mhealth’ that uses mobile phone to detect cancer.

Incidentally, the person from Harvard who co-created the software with MIT student Russell Ryan is Sidhant Jena, an Indian.

Elaborating on the technology, MSCC medical director Dr Paul Salins said the SANA software has certain automated questionnaires which are directed to the patient by a health worker.

If most of the questionnaires are answered in the affirmative, the health worker will then take high quality lesion picture using the phone camera. The condition will be diagnosed either using the software’s decision support algorithms or by uploading the data to the Centre’s EMR system for the specialists to take a look at it. If the lesion is malevolent then an appropriate treatment is recommended to the person.

“Most patients come to us with stage four tumours that are expensive to treat. However, if cancer is detected early, not only can it be properly treated but will also be economical for the patient. In fact, the treatment would come within the government’s insurance scheme,” said Dr Salin. He added that same system could be used for ECG and other chronic diseases.

Pilot project

The technology was put to use in Belgaum, Raichur and some parts of Bangalore over six months to diagnose oral cancer.

In these health camps, the Centre detected 20 cancer patients. Around the same time, the Centre also worked with KLE Dental Hospital, Bangalore, and Navodaya Medical College, Raichur, where general physicians, nurses and medical students were trained to use the software.

In total, nearly 400 high risk cancer patients were screened during this period. As many as 20 ASHA workers in Belgaum were given mobile phones with SANA software to conduct the screening. Dr Salins stressed that the software could be downloaded in any model of mobile phones.

The Centre now plans to rope in couple of medical colleges in Bangalore and Kolar and train the staff to use mhealth.

In Bagalkot, it has joined hands with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has a strong presence in the district through its HIV/AIDS programme. “The foundation has agreed to include cancer screening while doing door-to-door survey,” he said.

Bone marrow cell

The Centre is also in the process of constructing the largest bone marrow transplant unit in the premises. The unit is to come up in about nine months.

August 30, 2011| Roxanne Nelson

The use of cell phones, and their possible detrimental effect on human health, is an issue that remains unresolved. A recent study, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (2011;103:1264-1276), concluded that children and adolescents who use cell phones are not at an increased risk for brain tumors, but several experts are disputing these findings.

A report issued by L. Lloyd Morgan, BSc, senior research fellow at the Environmental Health Trust, and colleagues found that rather than showing no risk for brain tumors, the study’s results indicate that an increased risk for brain cancer is a “major concern.”

Mr. Morgan and coauthors Ronald Herberman, MD, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and the UPMC Cancer Center, in Pennsylvania, and Devra Davis, PhD, MPH, president of Environmental Health Trust, note that the study’s results are flawed and mislead the public. They explain that these errors should have been picked up during the peer-review process and by the journal, because the results and conclusion sections of the paper contradict the actual reported results.
Several cell phone companies provided funding for this study, and some of the study’s authors are known to be linked to industry and to other research that supports the interests of the industry, the report points out.

“The accompanying editorial was also written by 2 people who have worked for the cell phone industry,” Dr. Davis told Medscape Medical News, “but there were no disclosures about that in their paper” (J Natl Cancer Inst. 2011;103:1211-1213).
“This study is not up to the usual quality seen in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, and it seems that it was rushed into print,” she said.

Not Likely in Young Children
The study in question, known as CEFALO, was an international case–control study that examined the association between cell phone use and the risk of developing brain tumors in children and adolescents. The participants were children 7 to 19 years of age in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland who were diagnosed with a brain tumor from 2004 to 2008.

The authors conducted face-to-face interviews with 352 case patients, 646 control subjects, and their parents. Cell phone use was determined from interviews and, when available, from operator records.

In the paper, the authors conclude that their primary analysis “does not point to a statistically significantly increased risk for brain tumors in children that is associated with the use of [cell] phones.” They add that there was also no consistent exposure–response relation, either in terms of the amount of cell phone use or by the location of the tumor.

“It is ridiculous to look at cell phone use in a 7 year old.”
However, Dr. Davis pointed out that they weren’t likely to find an association between cell phone use and brain cancer in young children because brain tumors can take 10 or more years to form. “Young children have not been heavy users of cell phones for that long,” she said. “It is ridiculous to look at cell phone use in a 7 year old. What were they, 2 years old when they started using their cell phones?”

The use of cell phones has also quadrupled in the past few years, and this study could not possibly capture that, Dr. Davis explained.

“The authors were careful to note limitations,” she added, but it was the invited editorial that stated that children face no risks from cell phones. “Public health is not well served by this.”
Dr. Davis also emphasized that aside from brain tumors, other studies have linked cell phones to serious health risks in children, including learning problems, autism, behavioral impacts, insomnia, attention disorders, and a broad array of disturbances to the developing nervous system.

Problems in the Report
Another expert, Joel Moskowitz, PhD, director of the Center for Family and Community Health at the University of California, Berkeley, agrees that the findings of the study have been downplayed. “This report and the editorial are another example of biased reporting,” he said in an interview. “The results actually verify higher tumor risks for children but the findings are downplayed. They dismiss any evidence or prior evidence of increased risk and harm, and then the media plays it out as either being not conclusive evidence or no evidence.”

Dr. Moskowitz noted several glaring problems with the study, which are in line with the findings of Mr. Morgan and colleagues.
“In a subset of patients who had cell phone records available, there was more than a doubling of risk,” he said.

That finding was also noted by the study authors, who reported that they found a “statistically significantly increased risk among users with the longest period since first subscription (odds ratio [OR], 2.15) among 24 case patients and 25 control subjects who had subscriptions for more than 2.8 years.”

The authors dismissed this finding because it was based on a subset of the data, explained Dr. Moskowitz, and they had other data that were not statistically significant so they chalked this up to a chance finding.

The follow up to the study was also too short to expect much of an increase in brain tumor risk, he continued. “Only 13% of the sample had used cell phones for more than 5 years, yet brain tumors generally take decades to develop,” Dr. Moskowitz said. “The study should have probably just focused on teens and not included young children.”

Another problem was the size of the study. The sample size was too small, limiting the study’s ability to detect an association between cell phone use and brain tumors, he pointed out. The study was originally designed to have 550 cases, but ultimately only 356 cases were included. As designed, the study would have been able to detect a 35% increased brain tumor risk; as implemented, it could only detect a 45% increased risk as statistically significant.

“This means if the investigators had 550 cases in the study and the overall result was similar, then the 36% increase in brain tumors reported for regular cell phone users would most likely have been statistically significant,” said Dr. Moskowitz.
Also, the definition of “regular user” was problematic. The study authors defined “regular” cell phone use as using the device once a week for 6 months. “That’s a very low threshold of use,” he said. “These kids are not regular cell phone users. Most of the sample used less than 100 hours in their lifetimes, but there was still a high risk.”

Only 13% of the cohort had used cell phones more than 144 hours in their lifetime, Dr. Moskowitz added. “The typical child in the United States reaches that amount in less than a year, so this study really isn’t applicable to children and teens in the United States.”

A cell phone radiation shield is a very inexpensive small device that is attached to the ear piece of a cell phone. This can reduce the radiation that causes cancer that comes through the ear piece by up to 99% depending on the mobile phone that you use.
This cell phone radiation shield simply directs the radiation waves away from the ear; this is very important since the ear allows radiation into the body.
When was cancer linked with cell phones?

In 1993 a man filed a lawsuit in USA saying that his wife had died from a brain tumor caused by the use of a mobile phone. The tumor had the same shape as the antenna of the phone and was also on the same side of the head where she used the phone.
Obviously the phone manufacturers wanted to disprove any idea that there was a link between phone usage and cancer.
They spent more than $25 million on intensive research but they found out these phones can be a health risk and can cause cancer.
It has been established that cancer of the brain has increased by more than 25% since mobile phones were first used.
There have been many research studies undertaken over the past 15 years.
An official Finnish study found that people who had used mobile phones for 10 years or more were 40% more likely to get a brain tumor on the same side of their head where they held the handset.

A blue chip Swedish research team revealed that radiation from mobile phones killed off brain cells.
Studies in both India and the U.S. have raised the possibility that the heavy use of mobile phones by men could cause reduced sperm counts.
In Australia research was carried out on mice. It was found that that radiation from mobile phones caused an increase in lymphoma in mice.
In 1998 an American research scientist showed that there was double the risk of developing tumors on the outside of the brain among mobile phone users.
Another study showed that usage of over 6 years of a mobile phone caused a 50% higher risk of developing tumors on the outside of the brain among cellphone users.
As recently as June 2010, research carried out in U.S. concluded that by spending half an hour on your mobile phone each day could increase the chance of getting brain cancer by 40%.

In San Francisco it is now law that shops selling cellphones show cell phone radiation levels of the different makes on the market.
From the above it can be seen how important it is to obtain cell phone radiation protection.
It would be hoped that a cell phone radiation shield would be fitted to every cell phone sold in order that cellular phone radiation could be virtually eliminated.

To avoid this health risk it is suggested that a cell phone radiation shield is purchased at a small cost to protect your family, especially children who are extremely susceptible to cellular phone radiation as their skulls are so much thinner than those of an adult.

All in one – that is how cellphone companies want the phones’ features to come out in the market. The must haves phones emerges from time to time and it became more competitive, powerful features and smaller. The depreciation value of phone also becomes greater since new technology has been incorporated in new phone that makes the old phones become gains lesser value. Camera, WI-Fi, memory, games, organizers, music, messaging etc. are some of the main features that phone investors considers. Buying and loading becomes part of everyday budget thus communication in inevitable to everyone. Depending on what kind of person are you – music person, camera person, organized one, call or text addicts, well phone nowadays have it.
Like other gadgets, the study of having phones is being dug in and there are negative implications that arise on its usage. Many of us know that exposure to radiation has harmful effects on and that it’s a destructive form slowly and unknowingly damages parts of our body. Using the mice, impairment on the brain’s spatial memory was found after letting the mice exposed to two hours cellphone radiation. The wall that protects the bloodstream and the brain from toxins becomes more penetrable after 20 minutes steady radio radiation exposure. The third study that was done to rabbits, electromagnetic radiation was impelled and discharge radicals that is liable in destroying DNA and fat molecules.

In so doing, it triggers destruction to human body parts. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, cellphone’s signal is a potential factor to alter brain activity. In their study, they tested 47 people by placing the cellphones to their left and right ear. At first, both phones are off and no activity or changes happened in the brain. Afterwards, the right phone was on a muted call. It was found out that after 50 minutes, glucose or sugar consumption was increased in the areas near the activated phone.

Some scientist, doctors and researchers agreed that the emission of radiation really affects the brain whether or not the model of phones release less radiation. It was also said that in some research most cellphone users are more prone to brain cancer. However, the debate on the effects to brain is still not conclusive. More and more studies are being conducted in order for the different standard organizations and and health organization agreed that they the results of the excessive usages damage the brain, particularly the memory.
